Privacy Policy
Scroll Books ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Scroll Books app and website, how we use it, and what choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to provide and improve the service:
- Email address — when you sign up for early access or create an account, so we can notify you and identify your account.
- Reading progress — which passages you have read, your current position in each book, and completion status. This is stored so you can pick up where you left off across devices.
- Streak and habit data — daily reading activity, streak counts, and milestone history. This powers the habit features central to the app.
- Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version, used for debugging and compatibility.
- Usage analytics — aggregate, anonymised data about how features are used (e.g., which books are most read, average session length). We do not sell or share individual usage profiles.
We do not collect payment information. Scroll Books is free to use.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To sync your reading progress and streak across devices.
- To send you product updates, launch announcements, and reading reminders you have opted into. You can unsubscribe at any time from any email.
- To improve the app — understanding which passages people re-read or share helps us make better product decisions.
- To respond to support requests and account deletion requests.
We do not use your data to serve advertisements. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to personal data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
4. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate Scroll Books:
- Cloud hosting — to store and serve your data.
- Email delivery — to send account notifications and newsletters.
- Analytics — anonymised, aggregate usage data only. We do not share individually identifiable data with analytics providers.
These providers are contractually required to handle your data only as instructed by us and in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
5. Cookies
The Scroll Books website uses a minimal number of cookies: a session cookie to keep you logged in, and an analytics cookie that collects only anonymised data. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The core reading experience works without them.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
- Receive a portable copy of your data.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@scrollbooks.app. We will respond within 30 days.
7. Deleting Your Account
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. We will permanently delete your email address, reading progress, streak history, and all other personal data within 30 days of your request.
To submit a deletion request, visit our Delete Account page or email privacy@scrollbooks.app.
8. Children's Privacy
Scroll Books is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
